March 2009: CQC draft statement on user involvement

The Health and Social Care Act 2008 required the Care Quality Commission to publish a statement describing how it proposes to:

  • promote awareness among service users and carers of its functions
  • promote and engage in discussion with service users and carers about the provision of health and social care services and about the way in which the Commission exercises its functions
  • ensure that proper regard is had to the views expressed by service users and carers, and
  • arrange for any of its functions to be exercised by, or with the assistance of, service users and carers.

The Care Quality Commission consulted on its draft statement of involvement Icon: Acrobat PDFVoices for power from 28 January to 25 March 2009.

September to December 2008: CQC commissioners and senior executives appointed

The CQC's commissioners are Professor Deidre Kelly, Jo Williams, Olu Olasode, Kay Sheldon and Martin Marshall. Biographical information is available on the CQC's webpage.

The CQC's senior executives are Jill Finney, Director of Engagement; Richard Hamblin, Director of Intelligence; Gary Needle, Director of Methods; and Jamie Rentoul, Director of Regulation & Strategy.

July 2008: CQC Chief Executive appointed

Barbara Young, Chair of the Care Quality Commission, announced Cynthia Bower's appointment as Chief Executive of the Care Quality Commission.

May 2008: CQC Chair appointed

Baroness Young of Old Scone, Barbara Young, was confirmed as Chair of the Care Quality Commission.
