Picker Institute Europe’s board of trustees today announced that Dr Michael von Bertele CB OBE has resigned as Chief Executive Officer. Sir Donald Irvine, the Chairman of the board of trustees, will take on the role of Executive Chairman, effective immediately, pending the appointment of a new CEO.
Sir Donald Irvine is a former president of the General Medical Council and a former chairman of the Council of the Royal College of General Practitioners. He is a widely recognised expert on person centred care. He has been Chairman of Picker Institute Europe since 2002 and is also a Vice President of the Patients Association.
Dr von Bertele submitted his resignation to the board last week and is leaving for personal reasons. The board offer their thanks to Dr von Bertele for his work on behalf of the organisation, and all at the Picker Institute wish him every success in the future.
Picker Institute Europe is a not-for-profit organisation that makes people’s views count in healthcare. A leading voice in the field of measuring, understanding, and improving people’s experiences of care, the organisation is well known for co-ordinating the NHS national patient and staff survey programmes on behalf of the Care Quality Commission and the NHS Commissioning Board respectively.
